Study your decks with games

Open a deck and choose Play to see the games available for it. The deck page lists the same options under Study modes.

The games

• Mix - a rotating combination of the others. Recommended, and the game used by your daily sessions.
• Flashcards - flip the card and mark yourself correct or wrong.
• Quiz - pick the answer from four options. Needs 4 or more cards.
• Write - type the translation.
• Memory - match words to translations by flipping tiles. Needs 4 or more cards.
• Hangman - guess the letters of the target word. Available for most non-Chinese scripts.
• Hanzi - practice Chinese characters with stroke order. Chinese decks only.
• Audio - listen and choose the translation. Premium, and needs 4 or more cards with generated audio.

Session options

Before you start you can set how many Exercises to play - 5 to 50 - and Show first, which decides whether the prompt uses the target or source word.

What playing does

Answers are recorded as you go, not at the end. Each one:

• Updates that item's spaced repetition level, so it comes back at the right time.
• Counts toward your daily goal and streak.
• Gets saved to your mistakes list if you got it wrong.

Cards you answer wrongly also return later in the same session, so you get a second attempt before it ends.

Practising across decks instead

Playing a single deck is the right choice when you've just added material and want to work through it. For everyday review, use Start today's session on the Study dashboard instead - it draws on your whole vocabulary and picks what's actually due, rather than making you guess which deck needs attention.
