Generate audio for your cards

Yalango can generate spoken audio for your cards using Google Text-to-Speech. This is a Premium feature.

How it works

You don't have to request audio card by card. On a Premium account, audio is generated automatically when you save a card, as long as the target language has a voice available.

Open a card and expand the auto-generated section to see where it stands:

  • Audio available - click to hear it.
  • No audio generated yet - the card has no audio.
  • On a new card, you'll see that audio will be generated after saving.

Cards you created before upgrading don't get audio retroactively; saving a card again is what triggers generation.

Where audio shows up

  • A speaker button on the card in your deck and in your vocabulary list.
  • During games, if you've turned on autoplay in your language settings.
  • In the Audio game, which plays a word and asks you to pick the right meaning. That game needs at least 4 cards with audio in the deck before it appears.
  • On sentence and deck blocks inside notebooks.

Supported languages

Around 65 languages have voices available, covering most widely studied languages. If yours isn't one of them, the card editor says so instead of showing an audio status, and no amount of upgrading will change it - the voice simply doesn't exist on Google's side.

For Chinese you can choose between simplified and traditional script in your language settings, and the audio follows that choice.

On the free plan

The card editor shows the audio status but generates nothing, with a note that text-to-speech is a premium feature. Everything else about the card works normally, and the Audio game stays hidden until cards have audio.

Exported decks never include audio files - see Export your deck.
