Add and edit cards

Open a deck from My Library to manage its cards.

Adding a card

The card editor asks for two things:

• Target word - the word or phrase in the language you're learning.
• Source word - the meaning, in a language you already know.

Fill both in and choose Add Card. The editor stays open so you can keep adding without extra clicks.

Beyond the two main sides you can also add:

• Custom fields - choose Add Field to attach extra information like an example sentence, gender, or a pronunciation note. Fields are defined for the whole deck, so they appear on every card. See Customize your cards with custom fields.
• Pinyin - for Chinese decks, entered space-separated. Yalango can generate it for you, and you can choose whether it's shown during games in your language settings.
• Audio - see Generate audio for your cards. This needs Premium.

Editing and deleting

Select any card in the deck to reopen it in the editor, then choose Save Changes. Editing a card keeps its learning history, so fixing a typo won't reset your progress on that word.

Deleting a card removes it from your deck and from future reviews.

Writing cards that are worth reviewing

A few habits make a large difference to how useful your reviews are:

• One meaning per card. If a word has three distinct meanings, three cards will serve you better than one card with a list you can never fully recall.
• Add a little context. For a word that only makes sense in a phrase, put the phrase on the card rather than the bare word.
• Keep the source side short. In writing exercises you have to reproduce the target side, so a long, wordy source side makes the task ambiguous.
• Use an example sentence field for anything where usage matters more than translation.

Adding a lot of cards at once

Typing is only worth it for small batches. To bring in an existing list, use Import - it accepts CSV, Anki, Quizlet, pasted text, and a paste-in table.
