Customize your cards with custom fields

Cards on Yalango have two main sides - a target word and a source word - but you can attach extra information using custom fields.

Custom fields are defined at the deck level, which means every card in the deck shares the same set of fields. This keeps your data tidy and makes the cards easier to study together.

Two field types

  • Text - a single free-text value. Good for things like notes, an example sentence, or a grammar tip.
  • List - multiple values for the same field. Useful for things like several example sentences, multiple meanings, or related forms.

How to add a field

In the card editor, you'll find an Add Field button. You can also manage all the fields for the deck from the Custom Fields modal, where you can rename, reorder, or remove fields.

Once a field is defined, it shows up on every card in the deck, ready to fill in.

Some ideas

  • A Notes text field for tricky pronunciation tips
  • An Examples list field for two or three example sentences
  • A Gender text field for languages where every noun has one
  • A Conjugation hint text field for irregular verbs
