Language settings
Language settings holds preferences that apply to one language only. Switch language with the selector in the menu, then adjust the settings for it.
This separation is the point: you might want writing exercises and audio for your main language, and pure recognition practice for one you only read.
The settings
- Display pinyin - show pronunciation guides for Chinese characters. Chinese only.
- Autoplay audio - play a card's audio automatically when it appears during a game. If the language has no Google voice, this is replaced by a note explaining that cards in the language have no audio.
- Show custom fields - display your extra card fields while practising.
- Mix mode games - choose which games Mix includes. You need at least 2, and Audio requires Premium.
Mix mode games is the one worth visiting
The others are conveniences; this one changes how your daily practice feels. By default Mix uses every game available for the language. Narrowing it is useful when:
- You want more writing practice - leave Flashcards out so Quiz and Write carry the session.
- You want faster sessions - Write is the slowest exercise, so removing it speeds things up considerably.
- You're just starting a language and want recognition only - Flashcards and Quiz.
During a game
The settings gear in a game opens a smaller version with Autoplay audio, Show custom fields, Display pinyin and Show first. Mix mode games can only be changed on the Language settings page.

Your level, your source language for a target language, and adding or removing languages are all on My languages.
