Your Inbox - save words from any app

Share words, sentences and links to Yalango from other apps, or paste them in, then sort them into decks when you have a minute.

Most of the words you want to remember turn up outside Yalango - in a show, a news article, a chat with a friend or a dictionary app. The Inbox is where you drop them as they come, without stopping to pick a deck or type a translation. Later, you sort them into decks in one go.

Open it at Inbox, from the link at the top of My Library, or from the study dashboard, which shows how many items are waiting.

Getting things into your Inbox

Share from another app (Android)

Once Yalango is installed on your phone, it appears in your phone's share menu:

  1. Select a word or sentence in any app or browser, or open a page you want to keep.
  2. Tap Share and pick Yalango.
  3. Yalango opens on your Inbox with the item saved.

Shared links are kept as well, so you can get back to the page a word came from.

This works on Android and Chromebooks. If Yalango doesn't show up in the share menu right after you install it, give it a moment, or remove and reinstall the app.

Paste it in (iPhone, iPad and computers)

Safari on iPhone and iPad doesn't let web apps appear in the share menu, and desktop browsers don't either. Copy the text instead, open your Inbox and paste it into the box at the top, then choose Add.

Which language an item goes to

Each language you study has its own Inbox, like the rest of Yalango. Shared items go to the language you have selected at the time. If you're learning more than one language and something lands in the wrong one, use the language menu on the item to move it.

The language chips at the top switch between your Inboxes and show how many items each one holds.

Sorting items into decks

Tap a word

Tap any word in an item to open the same translation popover you use when reading. From there you can translate it, save it to a deck, or mark it as known. When the word came in a sentence, you can keep the sentence on the card, which also lets you practise it in the Cloze game.

When you're done with an item, choose Done to clear it.

Save several words at once

Items that are a single word or a short phrase have a checkbox. Tick the ones you want, or use Select all, then:

  1. Choose Translate to translate them all at once, or Write the meanings myself to fill them in by hand.
  2. Check the meanings and fix any that need it.
  3. Choose a deck, or create a new one, and save.

Saved words become cards in that deck, join your vocabulary and enter your spaced repetition reviews. They leave your Inbox automatically. Any word you left without a meaning stays in the Inbox for later.

Translation quota

Translations in the Inbox use the same monthly allowance as everywhere else on Yalango: 300 per month on the free plan, unlimited on Premium. Batch translation uses one translation per word. If you run out, Write the meanings myself still works.

Good to know

  • Nothing in your Inbox is reviewed until you save it to a deck.
  • Your Inbox is private. Only you can see it.
  • Inbox items are included when you download all your data.
