Setting up your account (onboarding)
Walk through the first-time setup wizard - name, languages, how you found Yalango, and an optional forum introduction.
After you register or sign in with Google for the first time, Yalango opens a short setup wizard at /onboarding. You only see it once. Everything it asks can be changed later in Settings or My languages.
The steps
1. Welcome
Welcome to Yalango explains that the next screens personalize your account. Choose Get started.
2. Name
What should we call you? asks for your Display name. This appears on your profile, decks, and posts. If you signed in with Google, the field is often prefilled. Choose Next step.
3. Languages
Choose your languages:
- Set My native language (the language you speak).
- Search and select one or more languages to study.
- Choose Save languages.
Yalango creates a default daily goal of 10 correct exercises per day for every day of the week for each language you add. You can change that later on the Goals page.
If you select more than five languages, a confirmation asks whether you want to continue - you can study many languages, but focusing on fewer often leads to better progress.
4. Discovery
How did you find Yalango? is optional feedback for the team (for example Google search, YouTube, or ChatGPT). Choose Finish setup to continue. This marks onboarding as complete.
5. Say hi
You can post a short introduction on the language forums (Post introduction) or choose Skip for now. Introductions are capped at 2,000 characters.
6. Done
You're all set! reminds you to check your verification email. Then pick:
- Start studying - opens the study dashboard
- My Library - create or import content
If you posted an introduction, a link takes you to the live forum thread.
Tips
- You can study multiple languages - switch between them with the language picker in the menu.
- New accounts often see starter decks on the study page before they have their own vocabulary.
