Free plan limits
The free plan limits how much you can create, not how much you can study. Reviews, games and streaks are unlimited on every plan.
The numbers
| Resource | Free plan |
|---|---|
| Machine translations | 50 per month |
| Cards, in total | 10,000 |
| Decks | 100 |
| Tables | 100 |
| Texts | 100 |
| Notebooks | 10 |
Premium removes all of these, subject to reasonable use.
Two extras that apply on both plans: a single translation request is limited to 1,000 characters, and PDF uploads are 20 MB each.
When you reach a limit
You keep full access to everything you already have. Only new creation pauses:
- Translations reset at the start of each month, so waiting is a real option.
- Cards, tables, texts and notebooks need you to delete something or upgrade.
The messages are specific about where you stand. Adding a batch of cards that would cross the limit tells you how many you can still add, rather than failing outright - so a large import can be trimmed to fit.
Checking your usage
Your Plan shows live meters for translations this month, decks, cards, tables, texts and notebooks. Worth a look before starting a big import.
Getting more out of the free plan
- 10,000 cards is a lot. If you're approaching it, a good part of it is probably vocabulary you already know from saved public decks. Delete those decks, or mark the items Learnt in your vocabulary.
- Translate selectively. Only look up the word actually blocking you, and type meanings you already know rather than translating them.
- Reuse decks instead of duplicating them. Editing a deck costs nothing; another copy of it counts against your totals twice.
- Texts are cheap. 100 texts is far more reading material than most learners get through, so use them freely.
