Save words while watching

The point of watching a video on Yalango rather than on YouTube is the panel beside it. It lets you collect the words you didn't know and turn them into a deck in one go.

The workflow

1. Turn on captions in the YouTube player.
2. Pause when you hit a word you don't know.
3. Type it into the Translate panel and choose Translate.
4. Choose Add to list to queue it.
5. When you're done, Choose a deck and Save {n} words to deck.

Words are queued first and saved as a batch at the end, so you're not interrupting the video with a deck picker every time.

Timestamps

Every queued word records the moment in the video where you found it. Clicking the timestamp jumps the player back there.

This is more useful than it sounds - when you come to review the word later and can't remember how it was used, you have the exact spot to go back to. The This session history keeps the running list with its timestamps.

Words you don't need translated

Add without translating lets you enter the word and its meaning yourself. Use it when you already know the meaning, when you'd rather write a definition in your own words, or when you've used up your monthly translations.

Translation quota

Translations here draw on the same monthly allowance as everywhere else: 50 per month on the free plan, unlimited on Premium. There's no extra charge or separate limit for Watch.

If you're working through a dense video, adding words without translating and filling in meanings later is a good way to stretch a free allowance.

Where the words end up

Saved words become cards in whichever deck you chose, which puts them straight into your vocabulary and your spaced repetition queue. Consider keeping one deck per series or channel - it keeps the context together and makes the reviews feel connected to something you actually watched.
