One sentence, one missing word
Each round shows your example sentence with the card's word blanked out, and the translation underneath as a hint. Pick the missing word from four options drawn from your own deck.
No cloze syntax to learn. You write a normal sentence, and Yalango finds the word and hides it for you.
Turn any deck into cloze cards
Cloze uses the decks you already have. Add sentences, mark the field, and play.
Add an example sentence field
Open your deck's custom fields and add a text field such as "Example". Fill in one sentence per card that uses the word.
Mark it for Cloze
Tick "Use for Cloze game" on that field. If you skip this step, Yalango finds the first text field that contains the word.
Pick Cloze and play
Once 4 or more cards have a sentence that contains their word, Cloze shows up in the deck's game picker.
What Yalango does with your sentence
When the sentence uses a different form of the word, wrap that form in asterisks in the field you marked for Cloze.

Recall the word where it lives

Audio after you answer
If the card has pronunciation audio, it plays once you have picked an answer - never before, so it can't give the word away.

What is cloze deletion?
Cloze deletion is an exercise where one word in a sentence is hidden and you fill it in. It is widely used in language learning because it makes you recall a word in context instead of as an isolated translation.
How do I make cloze flashcards in Yalango?
Add a text custom field to your deck, write an example sentence that contains the card's word, and tick "Use for Cloze game" on the field. When at least 4 cards have such a sentence, pick Cloze from the deck's games. You don't write any cloze syntax - Yalango finds the word and blanks it for you.
What if the sentence uses a different form of the word?
Wrap that form in asterisks inside the field marked for Cloze, for example "She *went* home" on a card for "go". The marked text becomes the blank. Asterisks are hidden when the sentence is shown elsewhere in the app.
How does the game work?
You see the sentence with a blank and the card's translation as a hint, then choose the missing word from 4 options. The other options come from other words in your deck. Keys 1-4 pick an answer, and 0 or s skips.
Does it work for Chinese, Japanese and Thai?
Yes. For languages written without spaces between words, Yalango looks for the word anywhere in the sentence instead of matching whole words, so a sentence like 我喜欢学习中文 works for the card 中文.
Can I use my Anki example sentences?
Yes. When you import an Anki .apkg file, map the field that holds your example sentences to a custom field, then mark that field for Cloze in the deck's custom fields.
Is the Cloze game free?
Yes. Cloze is available on the free plan, together with spaced repetition, daily goals and streaks.
